Healing & Protection

When the road gets weary, when you feel out of alignment, when you need a little boost, rituals of healing and protection can help support you on your journey. It’s natural from time to time to need to pause and check in.

Ask yourself questions like: Am I in flow? Am I feeling fatigued? Am I speaking from a place of truth a kindness? Do I feel fulfilled?

With a Witch’s wisdom, these struggles can be addressed, examined, and integrated into our daily practices and we can rest more soundly, love more steadily, and feel more balanced in all aspects of our life.

1. Work with Water

Working with water is a wonderful way to heal, soothe, and support. This can be an easy way to connect with nature. If you live near a lake, stream, or ocean, all you have to do is jump in! If you ask for the gifts of the river or other bodies of water, it’s appropriate to leave a gift in return. Place your hand on the bank and leave a blessing, pluck a strand of hair for your head, or leave a bit of dried rose, mugwort, or lavender if you keep a little giveaway bag on hand.

2. Use a Little Salt

Salt has long been used as a protective tool in rituals. You may have cast a spell from within a ring of salt. If you want to add a bit of protection or cleansing to a room, add a small bowl of salt into the corners of those rooms, by the doors, or by the windows. This salt can absorb negative energy. When your intuition tells you that it’s time, you can bury the salt in the earth, or dispose of it in another ceremonial way.

3. Start a Fire

Ritual fires can be a wonderful way to cleanse and release stuck energy. Write what you wish to release, or an intention on a slip of paper. Start a fire in a cauldron, bonfire pit, or a candle that’s safely contained. Offer the slip of paper to the fire and ask for its support. Offer the ashes or wax back to the earth just like you would the salt from the previous ritual.

4. Ask the Earth for Support

Sometimes when you’re feeling misaligned and needing a little love from the web of the universe, the best thing you can do is find a tree. Find a tree in your yard or park or local woods, ask permission and listen before settling down with a specific tree. As you lean up against the tree, imagine your own roots reaching into the earth. You can ask the tree and the earth to help support you, protect you, and help you to find the balance you intrinsically know in your life. This works extra well if you can be barefoot. When the ritual is over, thank the tree; offering a little giveaway like you may have done with the water of plant, hair, or blessing.

5. Cleanse With Smoke

Smoke Cleansing has been done across cultures for centuries. To cleanse and heal with smoke, pick a plant that is sustainably harvested and aligned with your magical practice. Then, set an intention for your space, open the windows and doors, and slowly work your way through the space allowing the smoke to cleanse every corner. When you’re done, thank the plant spirit that helped support you in this work.

There are many ways that ritual and ceremony can help us to remain present and protected in our day-to-day lives. See what appears for you as you begin to implement and build your own practices and ways of magical living.
